Fashion Construction





You’ll learn how to operate an electric sewing machine, source fabrics, and deconstruct/reconstruct old garments into original finished designs. You will work on two exciting projects, the last of which will be an oversized messenger bag.


Course Syllabus

As a result of successfully completing this course, students...

Will be able to:

  • Use industry standard machinery.
  • Source and select fabrics and garments for development into finished designs.
  • Cut and sew jersey/knit fabrics.
  • Deconstruct and reconstruct selected garments into new finished designs.
  • Finish garments and accessories using professional hand and machine techniques.
  • Economically layout paper patterns on fabric for cutting.

Will display the following attitudes/professional behaviors:

  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Accept and apply critiques
  • Analyze and discuss work using industry specific terminology
  • Prepare for and contribute to class discussions and critiques.
