Painting





This fun and exciting course teaches basic painting principles including drawing, mixing and understanding color and value, and various techniques of painting. Students begin with two days of painting objects supplied by the instructor. Three days of drawing and painting animals from photographs supplied by the instructor or pet portraits from images that students may bring from home. Three days of drawing and painting landscapes and understanding the techniques of painting trees, fields, skies, rocks, and water. Images of landscapes will be provided by your instructor. This course will introduce the student to the enjoyment of various forms of painting. Demonstrations will be provided by the instructor and students will complete three or four finished paintings by the end of this course.


Course Syllabus

As a result of successfully completing this course, students...

Will be able to:

  • Have a clear understanding of their drawing and painting materials.
  • Create the illusion of 3-dimensional objects through color and value contrast.
  • Have a deeper understanding of how to accurately portray animals through painting and drawing.
  • Paint and draw landscapes and learn techniques of painting trees, fields, skies, rocks, and water.

Will display the following attitudes/professional behaviors:

  • Meet deadlines.
  • Come prepared at all times.
  • Discuss work using specific and appropriate terminology.
  • Contribute to class discussion and critique.
